Chattogram Customs on Sunday fined Dhaka-based importer M/S NB Traders Tk1.36.99000 for attempting to evade duty through false declaration.
In the statement, NB Traders says it imported five containers of coated calcium carbonate. Upon physical examination, Chattogram Customs found dextrose monohydrate instead of the declared item after the containers reached the port.
According to the declaration form, the duty amount of the declared item was only Tk 6,82,733.
Chattogram Customs sources said the shipment arrived at Chattogram Port from China on March 18. C&F’s agent, MN Enterprise, submitted the entry declaration on behalf of the importer on March 30.
On notice, Chattogram Customs House’s Audit, Investigation and Research (AIR) unit halted the release of the shipment by locking the entry document. On April 6, the AIR team examined the shipment by opening containers at the port.
On May 8, AIR Unit Deputy Commissioner Sharfuddin Miah said he found 4,800 bags inside which were dextrose monohydrate weighing 120 tons and not coated calcium carbonate which was printed on the paper. The estimated value of the item is 54.77000 Tk.
