City accepting applications for several committees | News, Sports, Jobs – SANIBEL-CAPTIVA

The City of Sanibel is accepting applications for the Historic Preservation Committee, Recreation Financial Assistance Committee, and Sanibel Vegetation Committee.

The deadline for submission is February 4 at 5 p.m.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the responsibilities listed below for the three committees may be modified to align with current CDC and Florida Health Department guidelines.

HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMITTEE

Qualifications include:

– Members are appointed by Sanibel City Council for a one-year term

– Nominees must be full-time residents of Sanibel

– Appointees must have knowledge, skills or interest in historic preservation

Responsibilities include:

– Attend committee meetings the first Thursday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Hall at City Hall, 800 Dunlop Road

– Assist in the procedures for the acquisition and disposal of materials and objects acquired by the committee

– Assist the Town’s Historic Preservation Committee in collecting, procuring, preserving and displaying artifacts relating to the history of the islands of Sanibel, Captiva and surrounding areas

– Other duties outlined in the City of Sanibel Code of Ordinances

LEISURE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE

Eligibility includes:

– Members must be residents of Sanibel

– Members shall be appointed by the Sanibel City Council for a one-year term

Responsibilities include:

– Physically attend at least 75% of all committee meetings, usually scheduled year-round, every two months at 8:30 a.m. at MacKenzie Hall at City Hall, 800 Dunlop Road

– Other duties outlined in the City of Sanibel Code of Ordinances

SANIBEL VEGETATION COMMITTEE

Qualifications include:

– Members are appointed by Sanibel City Council for a one-year term

– Nominees must be full-time residents of Sanibel

– Appointees must have knowledge, skills or interest in vegetation

Responsibilities include:

– Attend committee meetings the first Thursday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at MacKenzie Hall at City Hall, 800 Dunlop Road

– Get a passing score on the city vegetation proficiency exam

– Assist in the administration of the City’s Vegetation Proficiency Course and Exam for Landscape Professionals. Historically, the course and test have been offered four times a year – January, April, June and October – on the first two Friday mornings of the month. Due to COVID-19, New Vegetation Certificate courses are delivered in person and Renewal Vegetation Certificate courses are offered online; all exams are currently offered online only.

– Assist city planning and natural resources departments with vegetation inspections
