Class 10 exams starting today

SHILLONG, March 23: More than 58,000 students will take the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination (SSLC) this year to be organized by the Meghalaya School Education Council.
Out of a total of 58,625 candidates taking the SSLC exam, 25,486 are in the Regular-1 category and 15,061 are in the Regular-2 category. In addition, there are 11,337 non-regular candidates, 6,347 compartmentals, 385 privates and nine improvement candidates.
Female candidates (33,278) this time outnumber their male counterparts (25,347).
The SSLC theory exams will start on March 24 and end on April 6. The examination will take place in 152 centres, including 87 in the Shillong region and 65 in the Tura region.
The total number of affiliated institutions is 646, including 470 in Shillong and 176 in Tura. The total number of unaffiliated institutions is 1,166, including 799 in Shillong region and 367 in Tura region.
A total of 23,064 candidates – 12,936 women and 10,128 men – will take the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC).
Of all the candidates for the CSSS exam, 18,218 are regular, 1,536 are non-regular, 1,524 are private, 1,328 are compartmentalized and 458 are in advanced training.
The HSSLC theory exams will begin on March 25 and end on April 21. There are 105 HSSLC examination centers, including 66 in Shillong region and 39 in Tura region.
The total number of affiliated institutions is 260 with 180 in Shillong and 80 in Tura. The total number of unaffiliated institutions is 124, of which 83 are in Shillong region and 41 in Tura region.
A senior education department official said on Wednesday that they had made all necessary arrangements to ensure the exam went smoothly with the support of the district administration.
He said that the officer supervising the conduct of the examination in various centers will submit a confidential report at the end of the examination. “The government has set up a flying team to resolve any issues during the exams,” he added.
